Looking to shake off an overtime loss to the St. Louis Rams, the San Francisco 49ers will host a Miami Dolphins team struggling to stay in the AFC playoff race.

Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers host Ryan Tannehill and the Dolphins in a Sunday-afternoon matchup.

At 8-3-1, San Francisco can’t afford more losses if it wants to catch up to No. 1 seed Atlanta and hold off No. 3 seed Green Bay. The Niners also have to be careful down the stretch, as their final two games will be against NFC West foes, including second-place Seattle. A win against Miami could go a long way to helping San Francisco take its second straight NFC West crown.
The Dolphins, meanwhile, need a lot of help if they're to continue their season past Week 17. At 5-7 and coming off a close defeat against the Patriots, Miami needs to gain ground on a host of AFC wild card contenders. The Dolphins' schedule does them no favors: Along with San Francisco, Miami has to make trips up to frgid New England. Miami will need a better performance out of Ryan Tannehill this Sunday if it wants the upset. The rookie quarterback out of Texas A&M had a rough go against New England, completing just 13 of 26 passes for 189 yards, though he did rush for a touchdown.
