Monday Night Football Will Have 2-Man Booth With Mike Tirico, Jon Gruden In 2012

ESPN announced that they’ll be going with a two-man booth in 2012 as Ron Jaworski moves to the studio.

Monday Night Football will have a slightly new look in 2012 as ESPN officials have announced that they’re rolling with a two-man booth next season. Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden will be in the booth while Ron Jaworski will move to the studio, according to ESPN.

Jaworski was previously in the booth, so this will be a new role for him and I think it’s the right one. Jaworski’s strength is breaking down film and explaining to viewers what certain formations are or what players are doing in particular plays. That’s easier done in a studio rather than on the fly in the booth.

“I thank Ron for the great contributions he has made to Monday Night Football and look forward to the many ways he will enhance our studio presentation from our NFL-branded shows to SportsCenter,” said ESPN President John Skipper. “With two strong analysts in Ron and Jon, these moves will better utilize their strengths and benefit our entire NFL presentation.”

Jaworkski has also received a five-year contract extension, ESPN announced. He has served in a number of roles at ESPN since 1990. He has been the Monday Night Football analyst the last five years.

This will be just the sixth time in Monday Night Football’s 42-year history that they’ll have just two commentators.
