NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell held a press conference in Indianapolis on Friday to address the media and give his “State of the NFL Address.” One of the topics he touched upon was the idea of potential expansion of the league.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell addressed the media on Friday in Indianapolis. One of the items he discussed was the possibility of expanding the league.

According to Nick Canepa of The San Diego Union-Tribune, Goodell eased off on the idea of expansion, which has been an idea for some time now as there are still attempts to construct a football stadium in Los Angeles.
We have not talked about expansion in the league at all. It has not been on our agenda. We want to keep teams where they are. We think it’s healthier for the league.
Goodell indicated that it is a possibility for a team to move to Los Angeles, but that there is no timetable for such a move.
We would like to be back in Los Angeles. We’ve got to find a way for it to work for both parties.
Of course, a team moving to Los Angeles does not necessarily equal expansion. If a new Los Angeles team were created to accompany the existing NFL franchises, that would necessitate adding an additional, 34th team to the league. That would not be the case if an existing franchise relocated to L.A..
Based on Goodell’s comments on Friday, it doesn’t appear likely that either of those things will be happening in the near future.
