On Saturday night, 24 hours before Super Bowl XLVI, the New England Patriots released WR Tiquan Underwood. Cutting someone the night before the Super Bowl looks like a cold move but, really, that's the best time to do it so that the New York Giants wouldn't be able to claim him off waivers.

Anyway, lots and lots of people wrote about Underwood’s release with plenty of debate on whether it was just a football decision or a cold-blooded move. For his part, Underwood took it well and didn’t say anything negative.
The Patriots lost the game but Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports Underwood will be one of the reserve/future contracts signed this week (usually made up mostly of practice squad guys).
So Underwood’s back and, like the rest of the Patriots, with no Super Bowl XLVI ring.
