Hines Ward Retires: Steelers WR Makes Announcement At Press Conference

Legendary Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward was released by the Steelers earlier in the month in what many thought was mostly a cap cutting move, but also signaled that the 14-year veteran's career may be coming to an end.

Amid initial denials that he was going to retire, Hines Ward announced his retirement from the NFL at a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

Ward was originally drafted by Pittsburgh in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft and spent his entire career with the Steelers, winning multiple Super Bowls and making four trips to the Pro Bowl.

“This isn’t how I wanted this chapter of my career to end,” Ward said in a statement after his release. “I did everything in my power to remain a Steeler and finish what I started here 14 years ago.”
