DeMeco Ryans Trade Receives Good Marks For Eagles

The Houston Texans have lost two linebackers already this offseason. While Mario Williams left for the immensely-greener pastures (monetarily speaking) of the Buffalo Bills, the Texans opted to trade DeMeco Ryans to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a fourth-round pick and a better position in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft.

The trade will likely work out well for both teams. The Texans receive another pick in a very deep draft, and the Eagles will beef up their defense with a much-needed addition. Bleeding Green Nation relayed some comments from NFL Films analyst Greg Cosell, who very much likes the trade for the Eagles.

I think it will work well because we saw in the last four games last year that the wide 9, which will obviously still be used and is more important as a pass rush concept, that was modified a bit in the last four games. Because Ryans is not a big, physical middle linebacker. He’s an instinctive guy, he’s a savvy guy, he moves well... so he’s not what you’d normally think of for a wide 9. But I think we saw last that its been modified. So I think he’ll be very, very effective. He’s a quality, starting middle linebacker. You have a proven quantity. You don’t have to draft someone and hope.

The Ryans trade fills in one more piece of the puzzle for the Eagles heading into the 2012 season.
