New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of his team's eventual victory during Super Bowl XLVI. It was revealed after the fact that Ballard had both torn his ACL and damaged the cartilage in his knee, which required offseason surgery to repair.

Jeff Roberts of The Record reports that Ballard is looking at a long recovery from his injury.

He likely faces eight or nine months of rehabilitation for his rebuilt ACL. The microfracture surgery could add another six weeks because he has been unable to put weight on the leg, according to Dr. Alexis Colvin, attending orthopedic surgeon at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in Manhattan.

Ballard recently came off crutches and will not begin jogging until June or July. The tight end has been re-signed by the Giants but could potentially miss significant playing time in the 2012 season.
