There has been a lot of speculation leading up to the 2012 NFL Draft that a handful of teams picking the top 12 of the draft want to move down. The problem with moving down, especially out of the Top 10, in the NFL Draft in recent history has been the exponential difference in contract from a pick outside of the Top 10 to one inside the Top 10. With the new rookie wage scale, however, trades into the Top 10 are expected to go up as the contract cost has leveled out.
NFL Draft Trades Expected To Increase In 2012
With the new rookie wage scale, some NFL executives believe we could see an increased amount of trades into the top half of the NFL Draft.

"I definitely think there'll be some different dynamics,'' Kansas City Chiefs general manager Scott Pioli told the Boston Globe. "I think there'll be more teams desiring to move. I mean, we've already had a trade. There's going to be a different mind-set and different thinking, I believe, with a lot of picks and people thinking about trades.''
The Globe polled eight NFL executives and five of the eight said they expected more trading up into the top half of the NFL Draft than we’re used to seeing.
“I think teams would be more inclined to trade up with less concern of financial risk,” an AFC personnel director told the Boston Globe.
