Could the Pro Bowl be no more? That’s the word from ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, who said during an appearance on “Mike & Mike in the Morningthat the NFL is “likely” suspending the Pro Bowl due to the poor quality of play in the game. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello says that although there have been discussions about the future of the Pro Bowl with the NFLPA, no decisions have been made.

This news shouldn’t be a major surprise because the Pro Bowl has been under heavy criticism for the poor quality of the game. It hardly resembles football because players don’t want to get injured in an all-star game. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has mentioned concern about the quality of play, so that the league is considering suspending the game can’t be a complete surprise.

The winners of the Pro Bowl receive some money, but the game remain little more than a lightly-contested exhibition. It’s unclear what other options the NFL is considering besides potentially canceling the game.
