For the third time this offseason, a Detroit Lions player is in trouble with the law. Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley was arrested Tuesday for possession of marijuana, according to the website of the Mobile County Sheriff's Office. The arrest took place in Mobile, Ala., Fairley's hometown. He played college football at Auburn.

Fairley was stopped by police earlier in the day due to a suspended license.

It was just last week that Lions head coach Jim Schwartz was saying Fairley has done a good job of staying in shape this offseason and that the team expects big things out of him in the 2012 season.

Fairley was the Lions’ No. 1 pick, and the 13th overall, in the 2011 NFL draft. He played in just 10 games for the Lions during his rookie season, accumulating one sack.

Two other Lions players, offensive tackle Johnny Culbreath and running back Mikel Leshoure, have had marijuana-related incidents with the police this offseason.
