Jerome Simpson Sentenced To 15 Days In Jail, 3 Years Probation For Drug Related Charges

Cincinnati Bengals free agent wide receiver Jerome Simpson was sentenced to 15 days in jail and three years probation on Thursday, according to the Cincinnati.com. The sentence was for drug-related charges, which was a plea bargained charge from his September 2011 arrest for marijuana trafficking.

Simpson was facing up to sixty days in jail, following his March plea deal.

Simpson still faces discipline from the NFL, up to a four-game suspension under the current rules. That could hurt his chances of landing a free agent deal. He visited the St. Louis Rams on Wednesday, the only team that has overtly shown interest in Simpson's services.

A four-year veteran, Simpson started 14 games last season, the Bengals' No. 2 receiver behind rookie A.J. Green. He caught 50 passes for 725 yards and four touchdowns.
