Redskins Cut Jabar Gaffney After Trying To Trade Him

The Washington Redskins were trying to trade WR Jabar Gaffney before the 2012 NFL Draft but with the draft over and no takers for Gaffney, the team has decided to go ahead and part ways. Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports the Redskins have released Gaffney.

This move doesn’t come as a surprise at all. Gaffney publicly stated on a Washington D.C. radio station last month that the Redskins were trying to trade him. At that point, you figured they would probably end up releasing him because when other teams know that a player is on his way out, they’ll usually just wait for his release instead of giving up a draft pick for him.

This caps a bizarre month for Gaffney, who attacked Lito Sheppard on Twitter and then recanted, saying he’d been hacked.

Gaffney broke into the league as a 2nd round pick in the 2002 NFL Draft. He finished the 2011 season with 68 receptions for 947 yards and five touchdowns.
