One of the moves that the St. Louis Rams made in last week's 2012 NFL draft was to select a kicker, Greg Zuerlein, out of Missouri Western State. The Rams used their sixth-round pick to take the Division II kicker, who posted a college field goal percentage of .952 in 2011. That move may have made St. Louis' incumbent kicker a bit redundant.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reported on Tuesday that the Rams have cut kicker Josh Brown. Brown was in the final year of a five-year contract.

Brown had been with the Rams since 2008, when he signed as a free agent after a five-year stint with the Seattle Seahawks. When Brown signed with the Rams, he was the highest-paid kicker in the NFL at the time.

Brown’s 2011 season was his worst in six years, as he converted just 75 percent of his field goal attempts.
