Running back Tim Hightower decided to test the free agent waters after playing the 2011 NFL season with the Washington Redskins. Hightower started the 2011 season as the Redskins starting running back, but tore his ACL in week five against the Carolina Panthers, ending his season prematurely. Hightower announced on Twitter he was heading back to Washington.

Hightower joins Tristan Davis along with fourth and sixth round draft picks, respectively, Roy Helu and Evan Royster as the Redskins running backs entering the 2012 NFL season. Before his injury, Hightower had 84 carries for 321 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.
If Hightower’s knee is healthy to start the year, he should be one of the main ball carriers in the Redskins running back-by-committee offense.
