There was talk last year that it might be the last season for New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin as the team stumbled through a stretch of four consecutive losses in the middle part of the season. One Super Bowl win later, the Giants are close to extending Coughlin's contract, according to a report from ESPN New York.

Team owner John Mara told the press at Wednesday night’s Super Bowl ring presentation that the team was nearing a new deal for the head coach. Mara said that a deal would be done “sooner rather than later” and did not foresee any hangups in getting a deal done.
Co-owner Steve Tisch praised Coughlin’s work to turn a struggling team into a Super Bowl champion.
“When we were in the middle of the season and things weren’t looking very good, this team really pulled together,” Tisch said. “Coach Coughlin really knew what to say to those guys, when to say it and how to say it and that is why we are here tonight.”
