Tim Tebow Threatens To Sue ‘My Jesus’ T-Shirt Maker

Tim Tebow is continuing his battle to protect his brand image, but he might be going a little too far this time. Representatives of Tim Tebow sent a cease-and-desist letter to the proprietors of cubbytees.com demanding they "immediately cease and desist from any use of Mr. Tebow's name and/or likeness on their site."

The T-shirt itself appears to bear no likeness to anything related to Tebow other than his well-known religious nature. However, the letter is not actually about the T-shirt in question (Letter PDF). As the first paragraph indicates, it came to the attention of Team Tebow “that [Cubby Tees has] been using the name of Mr. Tebow on your website ... to promote, advertise and sell numerous T-shirts.”

The site appears to have been temporarily suspended, but according to TMZ, the site previously stated, “This fun design is not officially endorsed by New York’s backup quarterback or the Son of God, but plays off the themes of Tebow’s faith and his new team.”

If that is what the website stated, they should be able to survive a legal challenge. The owners of Cubby Tees reportedly told TMZ they would not back down and have responded to the Tebow letter.
