The San Francisco 49ers are coming off a deep playoff run, falling just short of the Super Bowl in the NFC Championship game. A big part of the success of the 49ers last season was their defense, which was one of the best in the NFL. The team returns a lot of players from that defense, and now some will be looking to cash in on last year's success. One of those players is safety Dashon Goldson, according to a report by Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area.

A league source told CSNBayArea.com that Goldson, set to earn $6.212 million in 2012 as the team's franchise player, is seeking a long-term deal similar to the five-year, $40 million contract safety Eric Weddle signed last year with the San Diego Chargers.

After a Pro Bowl season last year, Goldson was hit with the team’s franchise tag but has yet to sign it, looking for a long term deal.
