Bill Romanowski Calls Cris Carter’s Claim ‘Absolute Fiction’

The discussion around bounties in the NFL continued this week as Cris Carter, former Eagles and Vikings receiver, admitted for the first time that he put bounties on other players heads. One of the stories he used explaining all of this involved Bill Romanowski:

“I’d tell one of them guards, ‘Hey man, this dude is after me, man. Bill Romanowski.‘ He told me he’s gonna me out before the game, in warmups. No problem. ‘I’m gonna end your career, Carter.’ No problem. I put a little change on his head before the game. Protect myself, protect my family. That’s the league that I grew up in.”

Except Romanowski says it doesn’t happen. He said on the Dan Patrick Show that he never said that.

“It is absolute fiction,” Romanowski said. “If he could read my mind in pre-game, yeah, maybe he had it right. But I didn’t talk before games. I was in the zone.”

A minor back-and-forth in the grand scheme of things.

I will say though that based on my perception of Romanowski, I didn’t think twice when Carter accused him of saying that.
