John Beck, Houston Texans Strike A Deal, According To Report

The Houston Texans needed quarterback depth in the 2011 season when Matt Schaub went down, and in the 2012 season they'll have another quarterback option. The Texans agreed to a contract with former Washington Redskins quarterback John Beck, according to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle. Beck was cut by the Redskins during the draft (no, really, during the draft).

Beck played for Mike Shanahan in Washington D.C. and Texans coach Gary Kubiak has similar concepts which makes the transition easier.

The Texans needed a veteran quarterback option in a bad way last year. Starter Matt Schaub went down for the season and he was replaced by backup Matt Leinart, who was also eventually injured for the rest of the season. T.J. Yates stepped in for the final five games going 2-3 to end the regular season before winning one playoff game. Since then, the Texans also parted ways with Leinart.
