Darrelle Revis’ Contract Situation Could Be Deja Vu

Darrelle Revis is one of the top cornerbacks in the game, but is starting to become known for contract holdouts. He may be sitting out training camp again in 2012.

Darrelle Revis of the New York Jets somewhat famously held out prior to the 2010 season and missed all of training leading up to the regular season while waiting to hammer out a contract with the team. Now it appears that he may be holding out once again.

As part of that 2010 deal, the two sides came to a hasty agreement that Revis would earn a base salary of $4.5 million in 2012. Revis is in search of a better deal before the season opens, and he may be willing to hold out again in order to get it.

Kevin Armstrong and Gary Myers of the New York Daily News report that Revis will not guarantee his attendance when Jets training camp begins on July 26.

“I don’t know. That’s all I’m telling you,” Revis said. “I don’t know. I don’t know if I am or if I’m not. I told you that a while back. So I’m getting ready for this season.”

“Here we go with the contract questions,” said Revis, who also held out as a rookie. “I’m here and I’ll be playing. I’m getting ready for this season, that’s all I can do. Anything with my contract, we’ll deal with that in the future. Right now, I have to get prepared for this year.”

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said he expects Revis to be in uniform when camp begins, but would not comment on Revis’ contract situation.
