Ed Reed was absent from the Baltimore Ravens first mandatory minicamp Tuesday, according to Jeff Zreibac of the Baltimore Sun. The veteran safety is still on the fence about playing this season, and appears to be sitting out practice until he can make a decision.
Ed Reed Absent From Ravens Mandatory Minicamp
Reed said last month that he has been contemplating retirement for the last three offseasons, citing concerns about his health and long-term future. This despite Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti saying last Friday that he expected Reed to show up for the first day of minicamp.
Reed faces progressive fines for each day of minicamp that he skips. He could be fined $10,000 for missing the first day, $20,000 for the second and $30,000 for the third, for a total of $60,000. Reed is in the final year of his five-year contract, and is set to earn $7.2 million this season if he plays.
