Saints DE Greg Romeus Tears ACL And MCL During Practice

The New Orleans Saints held their mandatory minicamp last week and continued with OTAs this week. At one of those practices, defensive end Greg Romeus suffered an unfortunate injury. Saints coach Joe Vitt confirmed to reporters that Romeus tore his ACL and MCL this week, which could end his season prematurely.

That’s a six to eight month injury and from the way Vitt talked it sounds like the Saints could shut him down for the year.

“He was just running down the field and his non-surgical knee gave on him and he has an ACL and an MCL and he’s going to miss the next 6-8 months,” Saints coach Joe Vitt said. “This kid has really worked hard. The whole team feels bad for him, the coaching staff feels bad for him. It’s part of the game. This kid has put in the time, he has put in the effort and he has to go through the whole process all over again. So we’re going to be there for him and we’re going to support him.”

Romeus also tore his ACL in college and spent his rookie season on injured reserve. Bad break for him.

If there’s a bright side to this it’s that the injury occurred now and not at the end of training camp. At least the Saints have time to plan for his absence.
