Adam ‘Pacman’ Jones’ Lawyer Calls Verdict A ‘Devastating Amount’

Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Adam Jones was ordered by a judge on Friday to pay $11.6 million in damages to security guards Aaron Cudworth and Thomas Urbanski. The pair of security guards sued Jones after both were shot at the Minxx strip club during NBA All-Star weekend after a melee ensued, believed to have been started by Jones.

“It’s obviously a devastating amount for him financially,” Jones’ lawyer Lisa Rasmussen told reporters. “He has really worked hard to make a comeback with his NFL career. People perceive him as a person who is able to pay $11 million,” she said. “Adam doesn’t even get paid until he plays his first game.”

Rasmussen believes that the verdict in civil court was swayed by the fact that Jones is a celebrity and is perceived to have quite a bit of money, and that Urbanski was in court in a wheelchair, as he is now paralyzed from the waist down as a result of the shooting.

Jones signed a rookie contract in 2005 after he was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the first round which paid him $13.5 million in guaranteed money, but it's unlikely Jones still has all of that money available. Jones' salary for the 2012 NFL season will be $950,000 once the season starts.

“If he is making money, I am going to be there trying to collect,” Cudworth’s lawyer Richard Schonfeld said.
