The Philadelphia Eagles have shaken up their front office, as long-time team president Joe Banner is no longer the team president. Banner has served in the president role since 1994, when Jeffrey Lurie purchased the team. Banner will now serve as the "strategic adviser" to Lurie. According to Jeff McLane of the Inquirer, this signals a change for the Eagles.

Whatever the characterization, Banner’s drastically reduced role signals a change for the franchise in both how it is run and in its image. There used to be four heads at the table when major football decisions were made. Now there are three -- Lurie, Reid, and Roseman -- Lurie conceded.

In the wake of the move, Eagles chief operating officer Don Smolenski will take over as president and run the day-to-day operations while general manager Howie Roseman will take on salary cap duties and contract negotiation.
