The New England Patriots surprised some folks on Thursday morning when they informed defensive end Markell Carter that he has been released. Carter was the team's 6th round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and spent the 2011 season on the practice squad.
Patriots Release Markell Carter; DE Was 6th Round Pick In 2011
The Patriots surprisingly released former 6th round pick Markell Carter, according to reports.

The Patriots drafted Carter and cut him near the end of the preseason but re-signed him to the practice squad. His practice squad salary was reportedly $350,000, which is high for a practice squad player, and a sign that the Patriots wanted to keep him around.
Apparently that’s not the case. Carter posted on his Twitter account:
It was too real Boston. I'll never forget those #BostonLights. When God closes one door he opens a new one. #STAYFOCUSED
