Josh Gordon Solid At Pro Day Ahead Of NFL Supplemental Draft

Rarely does the NFL Supplemental Draft generate much more than a nod from teams and fans. This year, things are a little different thanks to the presence of Josh Gordon, a talented wide receiver who could command as high as a second-round pick from teams, if the rumor mill is to be believed. Gordon wrapped up his pro day in Houston on Tuesday morning with promising results.

Prior to Gordon’s Tuesday workout, many were speculating about the possibility of a 40 time in the sub-4.4 second range, the holy grail for NFL prospects. Instead, Gordon ran it in 4.52 seconds according to Tony Pauline of SI.com. He also pulled his quad.

Gordon later ran routes, a signal that his quad injury was less than serious. According to Adam Caplan, he did not drop a single pass.

Whether or not he gets plucked out of the second round in the supplemental draft on Thursday, it now seems all but guaranteed that some team will take a chance on Gordon. There were 21 teams on hand for the workout.

But what exactly is a team going to get with Gordon? Therein lies the question. Gordon was a very talented receiver at Baylor in 2010, and coaches there viewed him as a better player than Kendall Wright, who was drafted by the Titans in the first round. The problem is, Gordon has not played football since 2010, and the circumstances surrounding his departure from Baylor and enrollment at Utah, where he never played a snap outside of a few practices, are still cloudy.

His numbers compare to those of Brian Quick, a second-round pick by the Rams this year from Appalachian State. Gordon stands 6'4" and weighs 225 pounds, the preferred size for NFL receivers these days.
