Arizona Cardinals Give Adrian Wilson A New Contract

The Arizona Cardinals inked safety Adrian Wilson to a four-year contract extension on Tuesday. The move was designed to clear up cap space for the team.

The Arizona Cardinals signed safety Adrian Wilson to a four-year contract extension, according to Mike Jurecki of AM 910 in Arizona. News of a new deal for Wilson comes as a bit of surprise considering he had two years left on the contract he signed in 2009.

Financial terms of Wilson’s deal have not been reported yet. He was due $17 million over the last two seasons of his current contract. Jurecki reported that the team came to Wilson about the deal in an effort to clear cap space.

A third-round pick by the Cardinals in 2001, Wilson has been an integral part of the team’s secondary. He had somewhat of a down season in 2011, intercepting just one pass, his lowest mark since 2005, and recording 65 tackles. A torn bicep hindered his season, but he did manage to play in all 16 games and a fifth Pro Bowl appearance. He turns 33 in October.
