St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson has toiled away as the lone bright spot on a losing team for years. Despite that, Jackson told Pro Football Talk on Tuesday that he would still like to retire as a member of the Rams.

In an interview on PFT’s podcast, PFT Live, Jackson told host Mike Florio that his agent has had some contact with the team about working out a deal to retire there. Said Jackson:

Well, we’ve had some contacts about making sure that I retire as a Ram, and that’s the only thing that we’re focused on. I think that somewhere in the near future, myself and the Rams will get something worked out to make sure I can retire as a Ram.

Jackson, 29, credited the fan base in St. Louis for embracing him and giving something positive during the team’s lean years.

There could be some tension with rookie running back Isaiah Pead, a second-round pick, in the fold this year. Jackson struck a defensive tone when talking about his and Pead's role in the offense. The veteran runner described Pead as a "backup" that would give him some relief during games, but maintained that he would carry the bulk of the load with "25 to 30 plus" touches per game.
