The Green Bay Packers received some bad news on Saturday. Head coach Mike McCarthy told the media that linebacker Desmond Bishop has a hamstring injury that will require surgery and could end his season.

Bishop left the Packers' preseason game on Thursday night against the San Diego Chargers with the injury. At the time it was described as a knee injury. The hamstring injury was revealed following the game. He had to be taken off the field on a cart.

Green Bay was counting on Bishop to be a key part of their defense. He had a big season in 2011, recording 115 tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles. Second-year linebacker D.J. Smith will likely take his place in the lineup.
