St. Louis Rams quarterback Sam Bradford might need surgery on his ankle after the 2012 season, according to Jason LaCanfora of CBS Sports. The team will first wait and see how Bradford responds to the grind of the regular season in the hopes that an extended period of rest will suffice.

Bradford missed six games last season because of the injury, which he suffered in Week 6 against the Packers. He was back after two games, but the injury was not fully healed. He missed four more down the stretch.

The team is watching Bradford’s ankle closely, but is confident in his ability to play this season. Bradford has been up front during the offseason that the injury is not 100 percent. It has not effected his play, says the team and the quarterback. He is continuing to take the normal number of reps through camp and the preseason.

Bradford and the team are working hard to get back to the promise he showed in 2010, when he won the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award. A weak offensive line and a revolving door of offensive coordinators resulted in heavy toll on the quarterback last season. His ankle will be closely watched by fans and the media through the season.
