Miami Dolphins Starting QB Decision Could Take Another Week

The murky Miami Dolphins quarterback situation should clear up by the end of this week, as coach Joe Philbin strongly hinted the decision will come after Friday's exhibition game against the Atlanta Falcons.

Both Ryan Tannehill and Matt Moore struggled a bit in a 23-17 loss against the Carolina Panthers. Tannehill went 11-of-23 for 100 yards and Moore was only 5-of-15 for 57 yards.

Philbin said the Dolphins are slowly going to start nailing down the personnel after the players hit the practice field for the first time since Friday.

“We may have a decision soon, or we may play it out another week. That’s still up in the air. We certainly haven’t come to any decision on that right now.”

He lauded his two potential starting quarterbacks for not turning the ball over and time management skills, but that is about where the praise of his assessment ended.

“Do we have to be better? Yeah. Were there some accuracy issues? Sure. Was there a time or two our quarterbacks could have stepped up to avoid pressure? Absolutely.”

Veteran David Garrard was initially believed to be the favorite to start for the Dolphins, but he is out for two to four weeks after undergoing surgery. Rookie first-round pick Tannehill is advertised as the future for the franchise but hasn't been able to prove it on the field quite yet.

The Texas A&M product was the first Dolphins quarterback selected in the first round of the draft since Dan Marino in 1983.
