Giants Optimistic Terrell Thomas Will Play This Season

Terrell Thomas has quite a bit of experience with knee injuries considering he tore his right ACL in college as a member of the USC Trojans and then again during the preseason last year. The New York Giants don't think their cornerback has torn it for a third time, however, despite thoughts to the contrary when the injury originally occurred earlier this week.

Giants head coach Tom Coughlin told ESPN that he’s cautiously optimistic that Thomas will be able to play this year, but admitted he’ll feel much more comfortable after Thomas gets a second opinion next week.

New York Giants cornerback Terrell Thomas is scheduled to meet with Dr. James Andrews on Tuesday in Pensacola, Fla., to determine the severity of the injury to his surgically repaired right ACL.

But doctors who have examined Thomas so far do not believe he has a torn ACL and are optimistic he may play again this season, a source familiar with the situation told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Considering the terrible luck Thomas has had thus far with injuries -- and his four-year, $28 million contract he recently signed -- one has to hope the Giants defensive back gets good news from Dr. Andrews.
