Clinton Portis Will Retire A Redskin On Thursday
Running back Clinton Portis will retire on Thursday after 9,923 yards rushing over nine seasons.
Portis spent seven years, from 2004-2010, as a member of the Redskins after his first two seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos. Portis rushed for 9,923 yards and 75 TDs in his nine seasons and added 2,018 yards and 5 TDs receiving; he also threw three TD passes.
After two stellar seasons in Denver the Redskins traded CB Champ Bailey and a second-round pick for Portis in 2004. His production didn't match what he did for the Broncos in his first season in DC, but Portis came into his own on and off the field in 2005. He helped push the Redskins to the playoffs and was the star of the DC media scene with his ridiculous press conference characters.
Injuries started to wear on Portis in 2009, as he only played in 13 games over the ‘09 and 2010 seasons before being released by the Redskins in March 2011. Portis was not able to find a team for the 2011 season and will retire just 77 yards short of 10,000 for his career.
