The St. Louis Rams have cut defensive end Vernon Gholston whom they signed on Aug. 22, according to Adam Schefter, ESPN's NFL Insider.

Gholston was the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. After being expected to start at linebacker, the former Ohio State Buckeye didn't see much action on the field as a rookie, playing mostly on special teams. In his second season in New York, the Jets hired Rex Ryan as head coach, but it was more of the same for Gholston who was once again a minimal on-field contributor.
A year later, in 2010, Gholston converted from linebacker to defensive end but still didn't make an impact and in March of 2011, he was cut by the Jets and labeled a "bust" after three years with the team. He signed with the Chicago Bears in July of 2011 but was waived exactly one month later.
