NFL Roster Cuts: Mike Kafka Latest QB To Hit Market

The Philadelphia Eagles have released quarterback Mike Kafka, according to a tweet from CSN Philly's Geoff Mosher. Kafka was involved in a battle for the No. 3 quarterback spot on the roster, but that spot is now likely to go to Trent Edwards.

2012 would be Kafka’s third year in the NFL. He was selected by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, 122nd overall. In the 2011 season he saw action in four games, making only 16 attempts in total. He completed 11 of them for 107 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns.

Eagles head coach Andy Reid praised Kafka in a statement to the team’s official website:

There was great competition at the quarterback position. That’s what football and training camp is all about. In the end, we had to make the difficult decision to let Mike Kafka go. Mike is a class act, a student of the game and a great person and I think he’ll have no problem finding a job in the National Football League very soon.
