NFL Roster Cut Updates: Rock Cartwright, Dwan Edwards Among Names Released

Friday is the day that NFL teams need to trim their roster to 53 players, and news about the San Francisco 49ers, Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks releasing players is slowly coming out Friday afternoon. The 49ers released running back and special teams player Rock Cartwright, who sent out a tweet thanking the 49ers for the opportunity.

The 49ers also will be letting go of wide receiver Brett Swain. Swain was a longshot to land one of the wide receiver spots due to the team’s depth at that position. During training camp, Swain played well enough to remain in the discussion, but after a poor showing in Thursday’s final preseason game, that was the end of the line for Swain.

The Bills are letting go of veteran defensive tackle Dwan Edwards. Edwards spent the last two seasons with the Bills as a starting defensive end, but this season he was expected to be battling for a backup spot since the Bills switched to a 4-3 lineup.

The Seahawks also let go Kris Durham, who was their fourth-round pick from last season; in 2011 Durham only caught three passes, and he appears to be injured and could be out for a few weeks.
