NFL Roster Cuts 2012: Steelers Reduce Roster To 53 Players

The Pittsburgh Steelers have made their roster cuts to reach the NFL limit of 53 active players before Friday's deadline. The Steelers got to the 53-man limit by placing rookie linebacker Sean Spence on the injured reserve list and released 20 other players.

Spence, a third-round pick out of Miami, sustained a knee injury in the team's final preseason game against the Carolina Panthers and will miss the 2012 season.

Here’s the full list of the 20 players released by the Steelers on Friday:

DB Damon Cromartie-Smith
DB Terrence Frederick
DB Josh Victorian
LB Brandon Hicks
LB Marshall McFadden
DL Corbin Bryant
DL Igbinosun Ikponmwosa
DL Jake Stoller

RB DuJuan Harris
WR Tyler Beiler
WR Toney Clemons
WR David Gilreath
WR Marquis Maze
WR Derrick Williams
OL Trai Essex
OL Ryan Lee
OL John Malecki

Of these names, Essex and Kapinos stand out as they had spent time with the Steelers organization. Essex had been with Pittsburgh since 2005 and played in 76 games with 28 starts, including all 16 games in 2009. Kapinos had punted in 12 games for the Steelers between the 2010 and 2011 seasons.
