NFL Roster Cuts: Bears Release 21 Players, Including Josh McCown, Xavier Adibi

The Chicago Bears announced their final cuts on Friday, roughly five hours before the deadline for teams to cut their roster from 75 players to a maximum of 53. To reach the player limit, the Bears released 21 players and traded fullback Tyler Clutts to the Texans in exchange for cornerback Sherrick McManis.

With physicals still necessary to finalize the trade, the Bears will have to release one more player when McManis officially becomes a member of the team.

Among the 21 players released by the team are quarterback Josh McCown and running back Armando Allen. McCown and Allen each had very strong finishes to the preseason, as McCown led the team with two touchdown passes and a 90.7 passer rating en route to a 28-20 victory. Allen led the Bears on Thursday night in both rushing and receiving yards, while also forcing a fumble on special teams.

In addition, the Bears also announced the release of LB Xavier Adibi, DE Chauncey Davis, WR Rashied Davis, CB Jonathan Wilhite, WR Joe Anderson, WR Terriun Crump, WR Brittan Golden, OT Cory Brandon, OT James Brown, OT A.J. Greene, CB Cornelius Brown, CB Isaiah Frey, CB Greg McCoy, G Ricky Henry, S Mark LeGree, DT Jordan Miller, TE Brandon Venson, DE Aston Whiteside and LB Jabara Williams.
