NFL Roster Cuts: Lions Cuts Are In, Kellen Moore Is Safe

Detroit Lions quarterback Kellen Moore, a rookie out of Boise State, was among the players fighting for a roster spot who ended up safe as the Lions made cuts to get down to the NFL limit of 53 players Friday.

Among the notable players cut were defensive tackle Andre Fluellen and defensive end Everette Brown. Tim Twentyman of Lions.com said they were victims of playing at Detroit's deepest position:

That will leave the Lions with nine defensive linemen at deadline with defensive tackles Ndamukong Suh, Corey Williams, Nick Fairley and Sammie Hill and defensive ends Cliff Avril, Kyle Vanden Bosch, Willie Young, Lawrence Jackson and rookie Ronnell Lewis.

The Lions, who have had problems in the secondary, also cut cornerback Alphonse Smith, a former starter. Other players cut are: offensive linemen Dan Gerberry, Rodney Austin and Pat Boyle; wide receivers Patrick Edwards, Maurice Stovall, Lance Long and Wallace Miles; tight ends Alex Gottlieb and Austin Wells; defensive linemen Ugo Chinasa, Edmon McClam and Tracy Robertson; linebacker Carmen Messina; defensive backs Ross Weaver, Justin Miller and Rashard Langford and punter Ryan Donahue.

Running back Mikel LeShoure is suspended the first two games of the season, so he doesn’t count towards the 53-man roster. See the entire Lions roster at Pride of Detroit.
