The Philadelphia Eagles trimmed their roster down to the league-maximum 53 players Friday night by releasing defensive tackle Antonio Dixon and punter Mat McBriar. Bleeding Green Nation, SB Nation's Eagles blog, reports that Dixon being cut is surprising:

Dixon is somewhat of a surprise. He didn't have a very good camp or preseason and was outplayed by Cedric Thornton, but there was a thought that his experience and previous solid play might have kept him around. Obviously that wasn't the case. As it stands, the Eagies will keep 10 defensive lineman. 6 DEs & 4 DTs.

The Eagles cut 19 other players earlier today. Here is the full list of cuts:

Defensive backs Joselio Hanson, Oshiomogho Atogwe and Phillip Thomas; linebackers Keenan Clayton, Ryan Rau and Adrian Moten; defensive linemen Antonio Dixon, Landon Cohen, Ollie Ogbu, Frank Trotter and Monte Taylor; tight ends Brett Brackett and Chase Ford; wide receivers Mardy Gilyard, Chad Hall and Marvin McNutt; fullback Emil Igwenagu; offensive linemen D.J. Jones, Brandon Washington and Steve Vallos; quarterback Mike Kafka; and punter Mat McBriar.
