The Pats, preseason Super Bowl co-favorites with the Packers, enjoy the most one-sided betting action of any NFL preaseason game tonight. With more than 67 percent of bettors on New England (according to the NFL consensus pick data at OddsShark.com), it’s clear that the public will be in love with Tom Brady and company again this year.
They face the New Orleans Saints and are favored by 3.5 points at most shops. The Saints, still reeling from BountyGate, played Sunday in the Hall of Fame Game so they are playing on a short week, assuming that means much in the preseason.
While the Patriots are a dominant 15-2 SU in 17 September home games dating back to 2000, they are just 3-5 ATS in preseason home games in August.
Washington -2.5 vs Buffalo +2.5 – Matchup
Washington is favored here despite a long stretch of futility against the Bills in the regular season. They are 0-5 SU and ATS since 1996 against Buffalo. But the RGIII hype train has left the station and preseason bettors are on board.
Baltimore -1.5 at Atlanta +1.5 - Matchup
The most pronounced UNDER betting trend this preseason involves the Baltimore Ravens. In their past 11 August games, the UNDER is 10-1.
Pittsburgh PK at Philadelphia PK – Matchup
Coach Andy Reid returned to the practice field a day after his son’s funeral Tuesday. The Eagles have a lot to prove this season and they have lots of talent. But will the emotion of the past week work for them or against them? The Steelers are 5-1 ATS in the past six preseason games against Philly.
Green Bay +1 at San Diego -1 – Matchup
Where the Ravens are the biggest UNDER angle, the Packers represent the best preseason OVER angle. In their past 17 exhibition games, Green Bay is 15-2 favoring the OVER, the biggest preseason totals trend available. The Chargers meanwhile have three straight preseason home losses to their discredit.
Denver +2.5 at Chicago -2.5 – Matchup
Jay Cutler has a new baby and Peyton Manning has a new team (Cutler’s old team). Denver has more kinks to work out than do the Bears but don’t expect Manning to play many series.
