Clark Haggans of the San Francisco 49ers violated the NFL's substance abuse policy for a 2011 DUI and will be punished with a three-game suspension. Matt Maiocco of CSN Bay Area tweeted the report on Haggans' suspension. Haggans will miss the next three contests when the 49ers take on the Minnesota Vikings, New York Jets and Buffalo Bills.

Haggans was signed before the season to apparently provide outside linebacking depth when top backup linebacker Parys Haralson was sidelined for the rest of the year with a torn tricep. Haggans has yet to register a tackle in his first two games.

The 35 year old Haggans ran a red light and was charged with a DUI, pleading guilty to a blood-alcohol level that was higher than .150. Haggans had to spend time in jail in June. Haggans explained that he had tried to rush home from a concert when he heard his daughter was having trouble breathing, but was pulled over by cops for committing multiple traffic violations.
