The appeal date for Dallas Cowboys offensive tackle Tyron Smith has been set, as the second-year player will try to have the $15,750 fine he received for a horse-collar tackle in the Cowboys' Week 1 victory over the New York Giants overturned:

Smith was fined for a horse-collar tackle on Giants linebacker Michael Boley on an interception return early in the game. The tackle saved a touchdown, as the Cowboys’ defense held the New York offense to a field goal, a huge difference in a game that ended 24-17.
As an offensive linemen, Smith has far less practice in safe tackling than most of his NFL peers, though that’s unlikely to make much of a difference in his appeal to the league office.
