The New York Jets' worst fears have been realized: Darrelle Revis is out for the season after tearing his ACL. If there is one defensive player who means more to his team than Revis does to the Jets I don't know who that is. This is an absolutely crushing blow to a team that couldn't afford to lose their best defensive player.

Outside of quarterbacks, you can make the argument that Revis is the most important player to any team. The ability to send an opponent’s top receiver to Revis Island and not think about it for the rest of the game was such a luxury to the Jets.
Letting Revis play the opposing receiver one-on-one allowed Rex Ryan to play a different kind of defense than he otherwise would. This lets allowed the Jets to bring a safety up in the box to help with run support. It allows them to send an extra man to pressure the quarterback. It lets the defense send extra secondary help to the other side of the field.
Revis is the glue that makes it all stick. That’s why this is a devastating blow to the team.
You can’t help but change your outlook on the Jets season after this injury.
