Warren Sapp, Michael Strahan highlight 1st year nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame

Warren Sapp and Michael Strahan are the big names on a good-looking list of first-time Pro Football Hall of Fame nominees.

Anthony Gruppuso-US PRESSWIRE - Presswire

Warren Sapp and Michael Strahan are among an impressive list of 13 first-time nominees for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2013.

Here is the full list of first-year eligibles:

Sam Adams, DT
Larry Allen, G
Morten Andersen, K
Priest Holmes, RB
John Lynch, S
Keenan McCardell, WR
Steve McNair, QB
Tom Nalen, C
Jonathan Ogden, T
Warren Sapp, DT
Michael Strahan, DE
Ted Washington, DT/NT
Bryant Young, DE

Sapp and Strahan are obviously the two biggest names, and their chances of induction are very good. However, there are two other players on the list that are arguably the best to ever play their positions; Andersen had a 25-year career in which he made 565 field goals, while Ogden is considered by many to be one of the most dominant offensive linemen of all time.

That decorated list will be joined by 76 other NFL greats, including eight finalists from last year’s class of players. In total, there are 127 nominees, which also includes 14 coaches and 24 contributors.

In November the list will be trimmed down to 25 semifinalists, and that number will be reduced to 15 finalists in January 2013.
