Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather will miss two-to-four weeks after suffering a sprained MCL/PCL in his knee during Monday's practice, according to Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan. Meriweather was signed to a two-year contract by Washington in the spring.

It’s unclear whether this knee injury is related to the one that Meriweather suffered on Aug. 18 against the Chicago Bears, when he was carried off the field by trainers after attempting to tackle running back Michael Bush. That injury was in his left knee, but it hasn’t been reported which knee he injured on Monday.
After emerging as one of the better safeties in the league while playing with the New England Patriots, Meriweather has struggled since they released him in Sept. 2011. The Bears brought him in to allieve their issues at safety last year, but they ultimately decided to go with younger players instead of the former Pro Bowler.
Meriweather is hoping that he can rebound from that disappointing season by playing under Mike Shanahan in D.C., but he isn’t off to a great start so far. Beyond the injury, which will keep him out for the beginning of the season, he was arrested on suspicion of DUI in April after signing with the team.
