Every quarterback needs to be a good decision maker in order to be successful at any level.
Seahawks vs. Falcons: Russell Wilson, Peter Konz and a Badger reunion
Wisconsin teammates Russell Wilson and Peter Konz will be on opposing sidelines this weekend for the first time, when the Seahawks take on the Falcons.
Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson already proved he's a capable decision maker -- both on and off the field. Perhaps Wilson's best decision was giving up baseball to focus on a football career, but perhaps his second-best decision was transferring from North Carolina State to Wisconsin for his senior year.
When Wilson takes the field this weekend in Atlanta, he'll see a familiar face on the opposing team: former Wisconsin teammate Peter Konz.
Wilson enjoyed his most successful collegiate year at Wisconsin -- and that came with Konz as his center for half of the season. Wilson completed a collegiate career-high 72.8 percent of his passes at Wisconsin, averaging 10.3 yards per attempt, while throwing 33 touchdown passes.
During his junior year at N.C. State, Wilson completed just 58.4 percent of his passes, and averaged just 6.8 yards per attempt.
Needless to say, Seattle’s quarterback made the right choice transferring to Wisconsin -- where Konz was an integral part of the offensive line. In 2012, Konz was named Second-Team All American by Yahoo! Sports, as well as CBS’ All-American team.
Konz spoke highly of his former quarterback, calling Wilson a “diligent worker.” Though Konz maintains that he and Wilson remain friends, he doesn’t plan on talking to Wilson this week.
Konz said he considers Wilson a friend, as well as Seattle cornerback Chris Maragos and John Moffitt -- both of whom went to Wisconsin -- but that he hasn't talked to nor does he plan to speak to any of them this week.
"I don't really talk to my friends," said Konz, known for his quirky outlook and wit. "It's strictly business this week."
Konz was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft, with the No. 55 overall pick. Wilson was selected just 20 picks later in the third round, with the No. 75 overall pick.
No matter who wins on Sunday, the University of Wisconsin, as well as Wisconsin alumni, can be proud of the football talent the school produced.
