Bernie Kosar receives brain trauma treatment, according to report

With concerns about safety in the NFL at an all-time high, especially when it comes to concussions, another former NFL player comes forward with news he’s being treated for brain trauma.

David Richard-USA TODAY Sports

After making an appearance on the radio recently, Bernie Kosar was confronted by concerned fans that he sounded very “unintelligible” to the point that many were worried about his health. Kosar said he was surprised about the reaction and that he feels fine, but he has now admitted to receiving treatment for brain trauma.

Kosar also believes that the treatment is working as doctors have been able to increase the blood flow to his brain, which has allowed him to sleep and feel better:

“When I heard some of the things he was capable of doing I was bluntly a little skeptical ... but just after a few weeks of treatment to not have the ringing in the ears, not have the headaches and to be able to sleep through the night without medications and all the stuff.”

Kosar also mentioned that he spoke to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell about the treatment he’s receiving in hopes it may help others.

Kosar was selected by the Browns in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He was released halfway through the 1993 season and signed a one-year deal with the Cowboys, winning his only Super Bowl ring as Troy Aikman's backup. He then played three more seasons with the Miami Dolphins before retiring in 1997.
