NFL coaching rumor roundup: Browns, Cardinals close?

The Browns and Cardinals have several interviews scheduled to potentially fill their vacant head coaching positions. Here’s a look at who’s on the list.

After nearly a fourth of the NFL's head coaches found themselves without a job last Monday, several teams are still looking to fill that void heading into the 2013 season. Both the Browns and Cardinals have multiple interviews lined up, and may be getting closer to finally landing a deal.

Arizona is interviewing Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and its own defensive coordinator Ray Horton. Gruden said his interview with on Thursday out in the desert was his first for a head coaching position. The Cardinals have reportedly also asked to interview Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley, but conflicting reports on his interest leave the situation unknown at this time.

Cleveland is interviewing Ken Whisenhunt for a second time, so the two sides may be nearing a potential agreement if things go well. The Browns also have Panthers offensive coordinator Rod Chudzinski, Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, Ray Horton and Montreal Aloutettes coach Marc Trestman in the mix.

Jon Gruden was once again mentioned, as the Browns are interested, but that scenario doesn’t seem to have much traction. So don’t get your hopes up if you live in Cleveland.
