Bears coaching search: Chicago will continue interviewing candidates

Despite earlier reports, the Bears haven’t settled on a new head coach.

Maybe the Chicago Bears haven't found their man after all.

Former coach and NFL analyst Jimmy Johnson tweeted this morning that the Bears were in the process of hiring Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman, but Chicago Sun-Times’ Sean Jensen is debunking that piece of news:

A Bears spokesman would not comment on the Johnson tweet, Jensen reported on Twitter.

According to Jensen, the only remaining interview he is aware of will take place Sunday with Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians.

The Bears are trying to replace Lovie Smith, who was fired Dec. 31. Smith coached the Bears for nine seasons, which included three first-place finishes in the NFC North. In 2006, Smith led the Bears to a 13-3 record and a trip to Super Bowl XLI, but the Bears lost to the Colts.

The Bears started the 2012 season 7-1, but it went downhill from there. The Bears finished the season 10-6 and came up third in the NFC North. The sluggish finish -- and the lack of a playoff appearance -- resulted in the firing of Smith.
